I got a frog as a gift and I need to know what he is...

A few weeks ago I recieved a frog as a gift. I don't have a picture right now but would like to know if any one knows what kind of frog he is. He is an aquatic frog. Albino, about 1 inch long. At first I thought he might be a African Clawed but I read that they only have three "fingers" on the back legs... mine has five and three of those have black tips. The back "fingers" are webbed and the front are not (there are four "fingers" on the front) Any ideas so I can look up more on him.

Its Xenopus laevis or the African clawed frog. Those 3 black toes are the claws which arent true claws but modified dermis.

Thank you microbiologist!

I will second that that is an African clawed frog.
They are not hard to care for, but keep in mind that he will grow to be much bigger than he is now, and be a voracious eater. Make sure you have everything you need to care for him now and in the future.
Sorry that I'm treating you like you are unprepared, but I know how the unexpected "live animals as gifts" things usually play out. The new owner is unprepared and the animal suffers. Not saying that this is the case with you, but better safe than sorry.

Thank you HHfrog. I have been doing a bit of reading on him and think I have everything he needs right now. Can't wait to see how big he is going to get. I have grown quite attached to him in the few weeks I have had him. He was real thin when I got him and he is getting chubby already!!

Sounds like your first instincts were correct... I believe its an African Clawed. All frogs have 5 toes on back and front feet don't they???? The black tips on his toes will eventually turn into the claws that give the frog its name.

With no pic thats the best i can tell you!

The black tips are the claws. But like microbiologist said, they are not true claws as reptiles, mammals, and birds possess.
