Hogg Island Help!!!!!!!!!!

Larryskeepers Jul 24, 2003 11:22 AM

I have a neonate Hogg Island that has never ate and doesnt seem the least bit intrested in eating... He was born on 7/2/03 and shed 7/10/03.. He has been offered everything from live hoppers and pinkies and fuzzies to 5 day old rat pups to F/T everything in between.. We have tried late night feeds, feeding in the dark and quiet and leaving little pinkies in over night, even thought about a force feeding but i dont want to stress him out tooo much... I just was wondering what the tricks where to gettting him to eat.. do i just wait him out... I really like this guy and would like to see him eat but he just does seem intrested in eating.. Mind you he will look at it and watch the mouse on the tongs or watch it crawl around but no striking and no eating... Anything i can do! I really need some help on this one.. Any suggestions would be helpful...

Sincerely
Rose

I had the same trouble with one of my hogs. It eventually ate after I raised the ambient heat a few degrees to 83 degrees and made sure the hot spot was 90 . I also added a perch and climbing branches, which I think helped a lot. She always perches on the highest branch and eats while hanging from the branch.

Good Luck

It hasn't been that long. It will get hungry eventually. You might try braining a thawed pinky, leave it in overnight in front of the hide box. I wouldn't worry for at least another month.
