heat went outttt

davekutrone Dec 28, 2005 12:21 AM

For some reason my flexwatt shorted out and actually started melting one of the tubs in one of my racks!...i mean, its been going strong for 3 years, so i cant complain...so now the rack has no heat, and my girls aren't liking it....for now, im gonna go and pick up some heat cable for freezing pipes at home depot and somehow rig it until i get more flexwatt....does anyone know how to turn off the thermostat built into the cable so that it doesnt have to be freezing for it to engage? Thanks guys

I think the problem might be with the control and not the tape. What are you using to control it?

Its a light dimmer. Even if it was the controller, the flexwatt melted down to nothing....but only in one spot...so now ive got a huge hole in my flexwatt, so i threw it away, and my ball pythons hate me for it...so how do you disengage the thermostat on the pipe-freezing cable? This is just a temp solution until i get more flexwatt. Thanks!

I was wondering if maybe you had a dimmer. When a dimmer quits, it usually goes full power. I have used the heat cable you are talking about. You have to cut open a little plastic ball on the cable and solder across the thermostat. The wires are very small and fragile. I would reccommend getting new heat tape. It can be delivered very quick. I bought mine from Bean Farm.
