Substrate???

3leoshk Dec 28, 2005 06:04 AM

I need to know which substrate to use. I am using paper towels right now and find it's very unatractive! I WANT to change. I looked around and found calci-sand is it truely digestable and safe? I also wanted to know if the glow in the dark one would get them confused between day and night???

No, Calci-sand is not safe, and it is not truly digestable. The calcium based sands are some of the the worst substrates out there for a leo. The best and safest substrates are paper toweling, non-adhesive shelf liner, slate tiles, repti-carpet and newspaper. If someone is set on using sand, the only sand that should be used, and preferably only for adult leos, is the fine-grained play sand. It will need to be sifted to remove any large particles and washed thoroughly before use.
