I have captured 2 more of the midland waters. 1 is a little bit bigger than those last ones I caught ( mainly wider ), but the other is just much much wider and maybe a couple inches longer than those others. I would not be very surprised if it had a couple of babys. I only took a pic of the bigger one because I cannot realy tell the difference between the other snakes just by looking, and i'm doing this in a hurry. I took 2 pics of it. one is a kinda close up comparing the width with the big one I caught on sunday night. I will not catch any more little guys because that realy would be just dumb. I'm still after a big one. Maybe this weekend I'll catch one. I'm going to the tennesee river camping. I caught that 2 1/2 - 3 foot one I have up there. So now my collection of waters is now 5 yearlings and one small adult. For those of you who have problems with math, that makes 6. I'll stop jabering on now.

Oh my god!! I must be a fool. I can't belive that. I gues i musta clicked the wrong thing. As you can se i'm not a computer wiz. ha ha ha. That was a giant tadpole I'd taken a picture of in a magazine for the frog forum people to ID. That would make an ugly snake. big fat upper boddy with a flat tail. And i am going to feed it minnows tomarrow ha ha ha. Here is the right pic I'll check to make sure this time.

That lighter colored watersnake on the left is interesting. From what I can tell, it has intact banding the entire length of its body which is very uncharacteristic of N. sipedon. Usually N. sipedon has alternating lateral and dorsal spots for the posterior 2/3 of their body. It's probably just a pattern aberrancy.

I'm glad you pointed it out. Al the waters I've caught have those spots you mentioned. This one has just the full bands almost the full way around it. After it calms down I'll try to take some more pics of it. i just fed it one minnow. It ate it eagerly but doesn't want to eat the other i have in for it( with the combination of my big ugly head and geting the camera out I scared it). none of the other new ones have eaten yet, but i guess it is because they are still nervous.

When you take the next set of photos, would it be possible to get a shot of the belly as well?
Michael

Sure. The belly is usualy an orangish color.
