as the title says, i can't find anything to explain why he did that. after i bought him he had a patchy shed and then 2 weeks later began another shed and now he's almost gotten it all off in peice? can anyone tell my what's up?

Sounds like he was dehydrated and had a crappy shed, that can easily trigger another shed real soon. How were his eyes? I rescued an adult female that had crusty looking eyecaps. With proper care, she shed several times before she blossomed into the exquisite beauty she is.
And yes, she really is this red, even more so in person:

My first BRB's were purchased as adults and shed every third meal for almost 3 months. Although they shed in one piece each time I think it happened because they were underfed and kept in below ideal conditions. The situation corrected itself within several months. Just keep up their humidity and don't overheat them and they should be fine if no other symptoms exist or arise.
