trying to remember a place on JUNO ROAD........

mchambers Jul 24, 2003 11:54 AM

I think it was caled MatFields or something like that and it was a country store and RV park. It was before Juno crossing I think. I was wondering if they are still in business. I had heard that they had closed. But then I had wondered how they could of stayed in business for very long being out in no mans land anyway. This was a place of choice on gas and food when several of us had stayed in Comstock and found out all gas stations( what one ? ) and restaurants had closed early, to early for some of us.

Thanks

The place you are referring to is no longer in business and hasn't been for some time. It's located several miles above Baker's Crossing. I was just past there the day before yesterday and everything is boarded up tight. I used to stop in there occasionally when they were open and, as I recall, you could get a pretty good hamburger there. I always wondered how they could stay in business at that location and I guess the answer is, they couldn't.

By the way, the cenizo (purple sage) is blooming all over southern Val Verde County right now due to recent rains. It is absolutely gorgeous! The southern stretch of Juno Road is boardered by a "sea" of purple!

Hi Mike. The name of the store was Mayfields country store. Don't know when it closed but it wasn't open when I went by last year. I even stayed there in a camper they rented out for 10 bucks a night, of course that was in the late 80's. They would leave the gate unlocked for me after they closed because they knew I was snake hunting. Their main business was catering to fishing and hunting in the fall. The longest Bairds rat I ever saw was DOR right outside their entrance on Juno. The head had been severed by some redneck trying to save the world from Bairds rats but it was still 57 inches long! the past events in his life. He tries hard to remember & sometimes does remember, but then theres these times when he thinks, when did that happen & who with? By the way, CRS in case you don't know is short for "Can't Remember Sh#t", Opps, I think I've been around him too much cause now I'm starting to forget things, LOL! Frase

Gee ! We have the VERY CRS person posting from the library in Sanderson ( Sandwichson ) Texas. If everyone on this fourm knew you and I , I think if a POLL was given, YOU would win the CRS syndrom and not me. Now go back to your other duties of the day Frase and clean up that house ! Oh and I DO want you to post your finds down there of the past week so EVERYONE in the country that does the alterna thing can flock down there and you can have your Sanderson traffic problems from alterna hunters. LOL !
