Rubber Boa pair....

jeph May 18, 2003 07:16 PM

Hi,
Heres a pair of rubber boas i found under the same rock, it was late in the evening, about 5 pm, I found a large male about 20 minutes later,-(I'll post his pic next), this spot is about 5 minutes from my house. Its great, anytime I want to see rubbers I can, I've never not seen one in this spot before, I know they stay there year round cause I always find sheds there too.

Beautiful. What subspecies are they?

Jeff:
Your boas are quite tan and seem somewhat small suggesting they were found in the mountains of S. Calif. There are specimens as light or ligher dorsally from east of the Sierra Nevada Mts. but they are of the larger morph and usually seem abit grayish rather than the basic tan dorsal coloration often characteristic of Mt. Pinos, Tehachapi, and San Benardino Mt. C. bottae.

Just returned from a 7 day trip to S. Calif. finding a number of specimens at various localities including a couple of female specimens from Mt. Pinos that are very similar in dorsal coloration as the two females you show in your picture.
