Timor enclousure

thebig_j Dec 29, 2005 02:22 AM

I am building a new enclousure for my timor monitor i was just wondering if anyone had any info on these guys and any help would be great. I am hoping to give him a mate so a cage for 2 would be great. I also was wondering if they burrow and if they would use a per made burrow. any help is great.

thanks
joel

I used to keep Timors. I never saw them burrowing in dirt, not even in a burrow I started for them. I used paper towel rolls for hides and they worked great. The Timors could wedge themselves in there and feel secure. I put the rolls in different places around the 4X2X4 enclosure. I also had a part of a large tree in there for them to climb on.

In my experience Timors will burrow extensivly if given leaf litter. Mine never dug burrows on soil, I tried a few kinds and none did the trick. I switched to oak leaf litter and they dug all the time. I housed a pair in a 4x2x4 cage with about a 12in or so of leaves in the bottum, They also used a Retes stack, they prefered to stay out of sight when basking for the most part.
Good luck,
Steve
