heat and light set up for new peublan

dodfire13 Dec 29, 2005 10:56 AM

I just got a new set up and was wondering what the best heat/light system would be. I would like to run the lights on a timer and the heat on a digital thermostat. One main question I have is whether to use a ceramic heat bulb on top of the cage or to use a heat mat/tape on the bottom. Currently its set up like this, lights and heat light (100 watt) on timer. Hot side gets up to 100 during the day, but drops to 68-70 at night. I think this might be to hot and to much fluxuation. I dont have a thermometer on the cold side, but had on in the middle that read 80. So I think the cool side is probably not much less than that. Second major question, should I keep the hot and cold sides at a constant temp or lower them at night, and if so by how much. And would the timer/thermosat system allow me to do all this? Thanks.

It's not really that complicated just get a under tank heater it will be fine. I think a hundred is way too hot even for the hot side, remember it's better to keep them a little cool then hot.

You didn't mention the size of the enclosure. 100 degrees is way too hot, and if the cage is small, it may not be much cooler in the "cool area." All you need for Pueblans is to keep them at room temperature with a heat pad that covers 25-30% of the bottom of the cage. The temperature on the heated area should be no more than 90 degrees.
