How to add humifity to a 10-gallon tank?

squale Dec 29, 2005 12:46 PM

I can't get my 10-gallon humidity above 35% continuously. I have half the screen lid covered with a towel and am using a 100-watt heat glo red bulb for heating. I have a 5 inch water bowl in the cage.

any ideas?

Maybe turn his hide box into a humidity hide. Don't neccessarily worry about raising the humidity throughout the whole cage, though that would be better, just make his hide have the humidity. Just throw some damp peat moss or cypress mulch or something in his hide and you should be ok.

well I didn't want to throw damp mulch in there due to bacteria, I was wondering is there a way to put some water in the hide box or something? I have Aspen shavings in the cage, and I mist the cage down everyday with a spray bottle, I get the aspen pretty damp but then it dries out pretty quickly from the heat lamp..

You can use the aspen the same way. Just dampen it and put it in the hide. I have a hide in mine that is just a wood box turned upside down. I dampen the aspen on the floor beneath it and it seems to work fine.

Is the heat lamp on top or underneath? Try covering more of the top.

i'm using a 10g too for my female until my boaphile 221D arrives. theres really not a whole lot you can do, but heres my advice until you can get a better cage.

1. lose the heat lamp, and get an undertank heater.
2. use cypress mulch as substrate.
3. cover the entire top with a folded pillow case.

hope this helps.

well I can't do UTF because I only have a overhead heat lamp, and that means I can't cover the entire top of the cage either...

guess the snake will just have to deal with 30-35% humidity for a couple weeks until my AP T3 cage comes in..

well go buy an uth then!

tanks suck and screens suck but lights suck the most

ok

so.let's say you have to ..........have to use them all

.......no towel

use foil for half the tank lid and use cypress mulch 3 inches thick and wet it........

then try and get an undertank heater.......

Raise the tank w/2 bricks under each end....then put the lamp underneath, close off most of the top.
