Cornsnake Newbie--A Few Questions

renland Dec 29, 2005 01:45 PM

Hi, I am very interested in adopting at least one cornsnake in the very near future, and have a few newbie questions. Five of my friends have corns, and I just think that they are great little snakes. My question is about housing: if I adopted more than one corn, could I house them together? Does housing depend on sex, or the size of the snake? Also, is it possible to introduce a new snake to a resident snake with little to no complications if I decide to adopt only one corn now, and another corn later on down the road? Any input is appreciated, thanks!

The above is linked to a very good post on the matter by Draybar. I agree with his conclusions overwhelmingly, as do most breeders today.

You will get differing opinions, but I can promise you that the bad possibilities far outweight any positive gains you hope to achieve.

If you do get two snakes and plan to have them in the same enclosure you will quickly see that it stresses them out. I had both of mine in the same tank, and it was pletty big enough for both of them but it didnt work out. They are always jittery around each other and then I saw one bite the other.

Now i have them in two different tanks. I really like them both but honestly i would have only gotten one if i knew it wasnt good to house them together.

i'm no expert and do agree all snakes should not be housed together. i have 6 corns and i've noticed that two females seem to be happier together then to be seperate. others i have don't seem to like to be housed with other snakes. i guess that its a personality thing for each snake and should be addressed with each per instance.
