Major Screw Up

caraae Dec 29, 2005 02:03 PM

Ok so I have 2 issues. #1 is that my beardie hasn't pooped in about a month. I'm not sure if this is normal or not? Usually when this happens I soak him more and buy gatorade to syringe feed him. So I bought the gatorade and started to give him some with a glass dropper- and he BIT the end off. I opened his mouth right away and there were no cuts and no glass-so I don't know if he dropped it or swallowed it that quickly. I think he probably dropped it. Any suggestions on the lack of poop and any similar dropper experiences?

If he dropped it, you should have found it.
If you don't find it, you can assume he ate it. Yes, they are quick.

I would recommend taking your dragon to the vet. If he ate a piece of glass, there are lots of organs that can be damaged by it passing through. I hope he will be okay.

Warm baths with a few drops of mineral oil in the water, can act as an laxative if the dragon drinks. We use plastic syringes (no needle).

Not having a bowel movement in a month is a major concern. Unless your dragon has not been eating much or brumating for the last month, I would take him to a vet right away. Such long periods of time without going to the bathroom, usually indicates a severe impaction, constipation or parasites. Also, if he ingested a piece of glass, this can cut through his gutt and cause even more problems. Anywhere along the way from his throat down to his vent can be lascerated by the glass with the small intenstine being most likely to be injured.

Deffinitely take your dragon to the vet asap, the faster you do, the easier it will be to find and remove the glass.

Thanks for your advice. I will get him checked out as soon as possible. I'm not sure if he's been brumating the past month because he's only just over a year old and hasn't done it before. He has been acting a lot quieter, basking less, not eating as much-especially his greens. I assumed that was brumation and that 's why he hasn't had a BM in so long. Aside from the potential glass problem, is that what normal brumation is like?
