Ok, my dad seems like he'll give in a few weeks, and I have no place to keep the now empty tank anyway, so I figured I might as well get it set up, then I could see what people thought of it and make sure there weren't going to be any issues before hand.
For the heat I am using a human heating pad. I may replace it with a reptile depending on the price. It covers about half the tank. The temp is about 85 degrees, ranging 2-3 in either direction over certain parts of the pad. I have it set on medium, but I may test it for a few hours at low and see what that does.
On the hot side I have a half log hide. On the cool side I'm using a paper towel roll. In the center I made a humid hide. It's a plastic chinese food container with a hole cut in it. I put papertowels inside and i'll keep them semi moist by spraying them every day or so. Is it alright if the entrance is at the top so the paper doesn't fall out, or do I need to flip it down. I also have a log in for climbing around and another drying out in the oven.
I really like paper towel substrate if i'm using one. My dragons actually have none right now, but I used that when I needed it. I have a layer of paper towel down and then I got a little bored and ripped up a bunch of towels in there. Is that safe? Could I, assuming it would work, run paper towels through a shredder and put them in there?
I have a plastic container as the water dish on the cool side. This is light, should I put a small rock in it to prevent tipping?
I don't have a lamp on the tank right now, and I am still debating whether or not to do that. During daytime I have a dragon light on under this, and if I am in the room the light over my bed is on. That provides me enough light to see in the tank. Since there is enough light for me to see in, should I put a lamp on it, or not bother since I can see anyway? The only reason I can see to do it is that the tank is in my shelf, and it would hold the lid down because I would have to lift the next shelf a little bit in order to fit the light in. If I decide to I think i'll just find the lowest wattage cheapest bulb available and put it in there?
Since it didn't matter with my dragons, I had a tank top that was too big since I took this tank from a friend and she bought the wrong size. They didn't escape and the light was enough to keep them in. I do intend to buy the appropriate size top and at least 4 good strong clips
Ok, did I miss a major thing? Any little tips for me?
