Anilius assist fed:

Oxyrhopus Dec 29, 2005 06:09 PM

Well of the two specimens I have here, one is really skinny so I tubed it some egg last week. It refused to assist feed on defrosted lizards or snakes. Today I noticed that it passed the egg so I took it out and gave it another 10cc's of egg yolk via a tube and then kept its mouth open and placed in a lizard like last week. It usually just opened its mouth and spat the food out but this time it used the kitchen counter to mash the lizard further down its throat and ate it. Well its a start.

Oh, that fist pic it wiggled under some electric chords and I did not touch it and let it do its thing with the lizard.

You can't see the eyes because they're vestigal - evolutionarily on the way out. Dan, correct me if I'm wrong, but they don't have a normal spectacle.

This is not a colubrid or a boid, but something much more primitive, sort of back there with the shield-tailed snakes and Asian pipe snakes on the snake family tree, just behind my good friends loxocemus.
