how old before breeding?

jacknm Jul 24, 2003 12:44 PM

I was wondering how old an ornata has to be before laying eggs, and whether or not they can keep eggs inside for a longer period before laying. I found Petey 2 yrs ago in my back yard and she's about 3 1/2 in. F to B of shell. She's been in an outside enclosure most of that time. Yesterday I found a 2 1/2 little guy soaking in Petes little pond. How long does it take them to get that big? Was this a miraculous conception or what. Any ideas?

She most likely laid right after placing her in the pen. The little one is probably now a 2 year old.
