Superworms????

jag Jul 24, 2003 12:49 PM

Is it best to cut off the superworms head so it doesnt bite the leo or just drop them in one at a time so the leo can get it. I decided not to keep them in a bowl, to much trouble. Im keeping the melaies in there though and decided i will feed the supers by hand pr just thruogh them in the tank at night. But I heard to cut off the head is this true?

you don't have to cut off their heads. with superworms, leos seem to know that they have to crush the head first, thats why they chomp on it until you can hear a gross cracking noise (which is the head being crushed in). somtimes i crush the supers heads slightly just to slow them down so my leos can catch them (my leos are too lazy to run after them!)

I have heard people doing that but I've never done it myself since I get the small superworms (not much bigger than a mealworm) for my leos. My beardies & chameleons eat the regular superworms without any problems.

You dont need to, like cleo said they seem to know to crush the head first. I feed my female the 2 inch supers, and she doesnt have any problems. Occasionally though she'll mistakenly grab the tail and it comes around tries to bite her, but they cant really do any damage and once your leo has em they dont have a chance. Its really gross though to hear the crack of the skull. Later
