A female Borneo will usually get a little over 5' and about the 20-25 lbs mark. Here is one of my adult females so you can see the size.

A Borneo will be your favorite snake if you want BIG GIANT personality in a decent-sized python package!!!

BIG isn't about size...it's about a snake you can have fun with. And bloods & short-tails have enough substance to them to really give them some OOOOMPH without being overwhelming.

We have Dumeril's. We have Burms. We have retics out the Yin-Yang. And a boatload of bloods too...and the bloods are my favorites in terms of BIG SNAKE presence! You get all of the alertness of a retic with the docility of a Burm, with the gas mileage that only a blood or short-tail can bring to the table (arboreal species aside). My bloods & STP's eat modest meals on a modest feeding schedule, and they grow & thrive & breed...in less than half the space a Burm or retic would need.

State regulations??? Not on bloods, they're still a nice, medium-sized python according to most reasonable folk!

Get a lovely Borneo & you'll most likely enjoy the experience...decide from there whether or not you really *need* to go bigger! Big snakes are fun in the right situation, but they are expensive to house & feed in the long run. And I've NEVER heard of anyone needing stitches from a blood or STP bite!

All food for thought...eat well!

Borneo females are top notch in my book when it comes to "big snake" feel without the hassles and expense of real big snakes. The photo is of me holding an older female at the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest, IL. She was a gem of an animal. This is the size you can expect from a female borneo (Python breitensteini) the males get slightly smaller, but in some cases not much smaller.

Good luck and hope to see you post around on the blood/stp groups.
