are toads good hunters or do they depend on the large availability of their kind of food ?

Every couple months I reach a time when my cricket supply is gone except for what remains inside the reptarium with my toads, and at that time I always set up a delivery of new crickets to start using around the time the ones in their house are gone.

It's now been 10 days since I last dropped crickets in there for them to eat. You can look over the whole enclosure in the daytime and assume there are no crickets in there. However, at night time there are a few chirping...

My question is... Can bufo toads track down and find a few hidden crickets in their house? I mean... will they go hungry on account of not having crickets moving by them in plain view? If they were actually very hungry for food... would they have found the several crickets that remain in there somewhere?...since I do hear them at night..

thanks

That is a good question. In the wild, I assume they would be able to find prey by following sents or sounds. However I don't know how well they can still use those insticts in captivity. It's possible that captive toads will get out of practice in their hunting techniques from being spoiled by a keeper. I really don't know.

I'm leaning towards the idea that even in the wild they are a bit spoiled with how plentiful food is for them. Since they will eat just about anything that moves and will fit into their mouths, they probably have things around them constantly that they can eat.
