Weeeellll, it's not uncommon for turtles to do this but if you can scoop the poo out with a net before he can eat it, it'd be better than he not eat it.
How often do you feed him & what do you feed him? I know many turtles do this but mine are well fed & when bringing food I've seen them accidentally bite at poo thinking it was food before I could get it scooped out, then they spit it out.
With my own turtles when they're getting the food they want they won't do this.

I do try to get it out but they quick little boys. My two maps are still quite young so i feed them everyday but its the first time i have not used any substrate so they getting used to it anything on the floor though seems to go in there mouth. I feed them all sorts but mainly the turtle food with crickets krill shrimp and turtle sticks in. I do offer different types of worms which they love. I want to try them on snails but think they are a bit small. By the way got a python cleaner yesterday my gosh should be a must for every tank owner.
Cheers
Andy
