Diamonds and Jungles

herptilekeeper Dec 30, 2005 01:19 PM

Hi im new and I was wondering if I could keep my female diamond python in the same cage as my female jungle, they are both around the same age and my enclosure is large enough. I just thought it would look kind of cool and I am trying to save space so I can add something new to my collection but if you think its a bad idea I wont take any chances of risking there health.

I have kept my JCP and JCP/Diamond crosses together for 8 years and never had any health problems. I do separate them during the winter for breeding purposes, but otherwise I have two large display habitats that I like to put them in. Similar to you, I think they look beautiful together on display. A counterarguement is that pythons only come together in the wild to breed, otherwise they are stricly solitary animals and it creates stress to house them together in captivity. I think most of the experienced python breeders keep them strictly separated except for mating purposes.

Thank you very much that was rather helpful. I might just try keeping them together for a little while and if they seem stressed and refuse eating or anything of that sort I will just keep them separated.
