OT ... Boaphile Cages

Freki_and_Geri Dec 30, 2005 09:19 PM

Hello everyone. I realize this probably belongs on a different forum, but all of you have been so helpful and I'm sure someone here has experience.

I recently ordered a Boaphile cage for my BRB. I received it the other day, and although I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the cage and how attractive it is, it has a very strong plastic odor coming from inside. I've cleaned it out thoroughly, as it had quite a bit of dust and small plastic shards inside, but the smell is still enough to bother me and I don't want to place my snake in it until that smell has dissipated. I have it sitting open in a well ventilated area so it can air out, but I'd like to know from those of you who use these cages, is this strong smell normal when you first open up a new cage and how long should it take/should I allow for it to air out? Is there anything I can use to help it along? After I've had it open for a while, the smell seems to go away, but even after being closed again for a short time it returns full strength.

Thank you so much for any comments. I can't wait to move Iris into his new cage.

I have two full stacks bought 6 months apart and yes they do smell at first. I bought mine ahead of time so I could play with the thermostats. The smell does go away fairly quick. I think it's partly the glue curing. I did notice the green tape he uses smells the worst. While you're waiting for the smell to dissapate, get it warmed up and the temperature stabilized.

Thank you. I was hoping that was the case. I didn't want to find out the glue wasn't cured properly. It's good to know the smell is normal and it'll go away quickly.

It's a great cage, I love the built in heating and it's going to be much easier to keep the humidity stable.

Thanks again!
