Health of African Rock

anyone05 Jan 01, 2006 03:47 PM

Hello,
I have a question concerning my african rock python. He will be taken to the vet but being it is early sunday and the new year i thought i would ask you guys. I noticed earlier tonight that he was acting weird. He will flatten out one portion of his body while the rest is normal and raises it above the ground in an arc until it touches the top of his cage. He has done it for the past 10 minutes. The arc in his body will press hard on top of the cage and actually raise the roof.

Any information would help me calm down.

thank you

I would first suggest getting it out of that cage before it gets out. If it can raise the top then it is not secure enough.

Second does it eat fine? Temps? Could be that it is trying to find away out.

The cage is formed plastic with a front opening door. The ambient air temp is 85-87 with a warm spot of 93. The humidity is 55%. I just fed him the other night, he is a rock even if he was sick he would still eat.

I have had him for a little over two years. A guy was deploying to iraq so I told him I would take care of him. He is one of the most calm african rocks I have seen. Also, I took him out his cage and he still did it, I was thinking maybe its a rib injury and he is babying it. He will be at the vets tom. so hopefully i can find something out.
