Females breeding annually..opinions please

oldskool28 Jan 01, 2006 09:39 PM

I have a few females that produced for me last season that I was not planning on breeding this year . They have ALL gained plenty of weight back , and some are bigger then they were last year this time .I thought it would be a good to give them the year off , but I can't help but wonder just if many "BIG" breeders out there breed girls every year .If so , by what weight standards or condition(of her) do they go by to breed a girl annually ? Thanks for any opinions ,

Rich-OSC

I'm not a big breeder but it seems to me that if they are bigger than they where last year you should be ok to breed them again. I have a female that has produced clutches 6 years in a row and each clutch the same or bigger than the year before.

they will and can breed every year with no problems.........

yes...8......10..and 12 egg clutches ...year after year.....

at times they will take a year off or miss for some reason...but I have had some lay for years straight.......and gain weight back really fast.........sometimes alot of weight...

I do not do maternal incubation........and get them back to size even by the time the eggs hatch......

.......I use rats,,.gerbils, hamsters (3 breeds) and alot of mice....

go for it....in the wild they would breed whenever they found a male...............
