I whent to see my snake breeder today to pick up a shield nose and some mice and rats, well I was there I no-test that he had some baby Great basin's, I asked how much they were, he said that I could take them for free, and then he said good luck getting them to eat, I didn't get to much info out of my breeder hes not much into talking hes kind of funny that way. I was hoping someone here mite have some good info on lutosus I'd like to know things like what they feed on as babies is it small lizards? and any thing else that mite help me take proper care of them.

I have personally never had any problems with Great Basins feeding as neonates; they are not that much different than other neonate rattlers (actually far easier than some). From my experience, most fed willingly on either live pinkies, or, frozen/thawed and rewarmed pinks. For stubborn feeders, I will put a pinkie in a ziplock bag with a frozen scleropus (a lizard native to that same areas as lutosis) and shake it up a bit and the scent transfer usually does the trick.

Hope this helps,

Cool thanks for the info I'll have to see about getting some lizards. He wont even strike at a pinkie live or dead hes a pretty shy little guy, not anything like my speckled rattlers they're always hungry.

Perhaps its the whole shyness thing. Work on the enclosure and experiment with different feeding methods to account for this.
