?s on borneo Bloods

ballpythons18 Jan 02, 2006 06:53 AM

I am getting a Boreno Blood on Feb. 25 at the Northwestern Berks Herp Expo, any ways i'm gonna be constructing a custom cage and was planning on a 4 feet long 2 feet wide and 18 inches high, is this suitable or a tight fit?I have a ball python and need a larger snake. I've had a 19 foot burmese but had to get rid of it cause my mom said it looked at her cat funny.

Also how much do borneos go for?I have up to 200 dollars to spend, hoping that would be enough

billstevenson Jan 02, 2006 07:58 AM

You get what you pay for..."bloods" as a group are very reasonably priced (unlike some other high-end herps). Buy the animal you want; you'll have it a long time. Your 200 bucks should at least go a long way in covering the initial costs.
I think your proposed cage dimensions are perfect.

ballpythons18 Jan 02, 2006 09:21 AM

thx for the info

jordanm Jan 02, 2006 03:05 PM

Hey these dimensions would be fine for an adult, but wayyyy to huge for a baby. More than likely that is all you be able to find at a show especialy for that price. I dont know of anyone selling any adult borneos right now. If you want a set up for a baby a 12 q rubbermaid with some holes poked in it would be ideal. You need a tight space for these guys or they will get really stressed out and you encounter problems. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jordan. I was thinking size for an adult ultimately. Bill

ballpythons18 Jan 02, 2006 05:41 PM

thx bill for the info,i'll go out later tonight if my dad will take me(or shoe leather express)to wal-mart.but i already bought all my wood so i guess i can just make the cage anyways.well i started with $400 and now im left with $180

billstevenson Jan 02, 2006 06:22 PM

Well, you can always set up the smaller rubbermaids within your larger enclosure and/or make use of ample hides. Good luck to you and let us know how your quest turns out.

Guess its probably too late for this now, since you already bought the stuff for the cage, but if you follow the instructions on this link, you can make a cage that size for under $100. If the link doesn't work the address is http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/4x2.shtml

Just thought I'd let you know I posted a reply to the question you asked me farther down the page. Also, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm 17, maybe we can hang out for awhile or something at the Febuary show?

I don't really have a job either, I make $800-$900 during the summer mowing lawns, but thats about it. Pretty much the only jobs I could get around here are cashier or stockman jobs at walmart, or working at a fast food resturant, but I'm not really a people person, and they don't pay that much anyway. Plus I don't even have my drivers licence, I've had my learners permit for 6 months and my dad's only taken me driving once. Anyway, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a Jungle, I saw 10-15 tables that had them at the last show. Most of them were only $60-$90. I usually get to the show around 9:30 and stay till around 11:30. Also, are you looking for a Blood or a Borneo? There were alot more Bloods than Borneos at the last show.

What kind of business are you a security guard for? I'd like to work as a security guard or bodyguard or something, and maybe eventually be a cop or FBI agent, but most places you have to be 18 or 21 before they'll even think about hiring you. Plus I live in the suburbs, so there aren't a whole lot of security jobs to begin with. My parents have a 95 Ford minivan that they said I could have, but insurance is going to cost $1,000 or more a year.
Prices on Carpets have dropped alot in the last couple years. Two or three years ago, Irian Jayas and Jungles were going for about $125 for average looking ones, now you can get them for $60-$80. I'd like to get a Jungle but I'm probably going to get a subadult or adult, because I'm into the larger snakes, and carpets grow pretty slowly. Plus there were some above average adults at the last show for around $150.

im a security guard for lehigh law enforcement,u have to be at least 17 with ur 18th birthday with in 6 months(my case, april 3rd)i still need to get more stuff for my cages, not quite done yet.i get my paycheck this monday (bought my self a bb gun with my last paycheck, shouldn't hve but i need a toy .

denma Jan 02, 2006 07:44 PM

4x2 is minimum for an adult borneo. I keep my adult female in a 6x2x2. It is good that you are considering the snake's adult size and housing requirements, I wish everyone would before buying baby snakes. However, I don't think babies and other youngsters should be kept in adult size housing. Housing should grow as the snake grows.
