AnimalSquabbles Jan 02, 2006 07:46 AM

Im thinkin to get a green down the line but what do you guys feed the adults, Rabbits seem like the only choice but they're not as common as mice and expensive here.

Rabbits and onto pigs... Rabbits usually last a fairly long time though, Collosal Rabbits are fairly large. It's actually getting the snake eating rabbits that is the tricky part. Rabbits usually don't come very cheap unless you have a breeder that can constantly supply you with them and is willing to kill and freeze them for you whenever you need them. Same with pigs I suppose.

I am some what new to condas but have asked a lot of questions. I would suggest getting a male. From my understanding you only looking at 8 - 10 ft, and not as thick as a female that would eat pigs. That is why I am getting a male green from Kelly. Yes I have a retic and burm but female conda would be to much to add to my collection, plus again correct me if I am wrong will get way to thick. Yes retics and burms can get big if you over feed.

Would you agree Ben?

Yes, males don't get nearly as big, I would prepare for the male to get around 12' though just in case. Females do get extrememly thick, but some males do too. Juds (the male Kelly breeds with his female) is deffidently one of the biggest males I have seen, but it's a good example of how big males can still get. You can look at a picture of it in the kingsnake photo gallery.

But Burms and Retics get very large also, it's just Anacondas tend to weigh A LOT more and show a lot more strength. Just comparing a 12' retic to a 12' Green Anaconda, they differ tremendously. I've handled a 12' tiger retic that weighed around 23 lbs, and then my 12' female green weighs around 63 lbs right now.

But hope this helps some more!

I'm thinking of gettin one and lettin it eat all the pigeons around here. Theyd be too dirty those. I saw a guy feedin his burm a duck, I'd imagine ducks are pretty expensive.
