What is the best lizard for beginners and why?
i would say a leopard gecko. they stay fairly small so they dont need large cages(about a 10 gallon tank for one)but they are still big enough to hold. they tolerate handling. they are nocturnal therefore they dont need any artificial uvb lighting. they do need heat but all you need is a uth.(under tank heater)they eat foods that are readily available(crickets, mealworms)i would say that they are the best starter lizard for those reasons. if you dont like geckos i would go with a bearded dragon. i wouldnt say they are quite as easy to keep as leos but they are also a good starter lizard.they do need uvb and uva(heat) lights, larger enclosures and they need animal protein as well as greens, fed 2 a day. but they become very tame and when the proper care is provided they thrive. i have also been told that blue tongue skinks are good starter lizards but i am not going to ellaborate on that because i have never had any of them before so i will let someone with experience with them tell you about them. i hope this helps a little. sorry its so long.
