Question about WC prophylactic treatments..

dryguy Jan 02, 2006 05:31 PM

Just curious about the YT in question below..How many would treat for parasites empirically or wait until parasites, mites, etc were proven to be found??
Also, the communtiy is producing fairly good numbers of YT's and they tend to have much larger clutches than the other sp...Why buy a WC specimen? (Not saying you made a bad decision!!)

I just purchased wild caught because it had a lemon yellow belly head etc... I take chances. I have found that the snakes that come in feeding do better when fed up rather than treat for parasites. Humans, they are just finding have thousands of bacteria in the gut tract. Bacteria aids in digestion. There is too little information in herp medicine about the effect on the snakes gut flora in relation to medication. I have had more problems associated with treating than untreated. It seems that a high percentage have digestion problems after treatment.
