Floating Frogs (Occidozyga lima) ADFs?

HHFrog Jan 02, 2006 05:32 PM

Does anyone have any experience with floating frogs (Occidozyga lima)?

There is a significant shortage of information available about them on the internet, I have found.

If anyone has kept them, I would like info on their diet, adult size, temperment, and behavior.

Also, can they be kept with African dwarf frogs (Hymenochirus sp.)?
My research so far has told me that floaters grow to about the same size as ADFs. But are floaters aggresive or territorial in any way? If they are even-tempered, they should be able to live in harmony with the floating frogs staying towards the top and the dwarf frogs toward the bottom.

hello,
well i recently purchased a 2.5 gallon tank and i decided to get a little frog ,i thought the frog i had bought was a african dwarf frog *silly me didnt study up on it before buying* and it turns out to be a floating frog. i bought 2 african dwarf frogs today and all seems to be well ing the tank . the floater doesnt really leave to top of the tank so i dont think she notices the other froggies on the bottom. the floating frogs name is *nauty* , she hasnt even went to investigate what all the fuss is about lol so i think they should be fine together. now what i need to know is the best food for a floater cause i tryed pellets she spit them out i tryed brine shimp she ate 2 pieces but that was it and now i got blood worms and mysis shrimp frozen. i hope the lil gal eats something i dont want her to get sick.do anyone know how big they get and where can i buy something like a lilly pad for her.

I got 3 of them today and am keeping them in a tank separate from the dwarf frogs.

Today one of them ate some small crickets that I threw in. In the next few days I will be experimenting with pellets, frozen krill, frozen bloodworms, mealworms, more crickets, eartworms, and possibly fruitflies. I will post my results.

From what I have read, they grow to be 1-1.5 inches body length, but mine are smaller than that.

My ultimate goal is to develop a detailed and accurate caresheet on these frogs, as one currently does not exist that I am aware of.

So far I have had success with feeding small crickets, frozen bloodworms, chopped mealworms, and chopped frozen krill. They have refused no type of food that I have offered as of yet.

I have not moved them to their permanent 10 gallon tank, they are still in the temorary 1 gallon while I get everything set up.
Caresheet and Pics on the way!
