Barking tree frogs

iced_urth Jan 03, 2006 01:23 AM

Hello, I'm new to the kingsnake forums. Right now I only have a leopard gecko, a crested gecko, a tiger salamander, a blue-tongued skink, and a green tree frog. I've been keeping herps for years and my latest interest has been tree frogs, which began after my acquisition of the green. I'm interested in acquiring a small group of barking tree frogs. I haven't had much luck finding a place that has them in stock though. I just wanted to know whether these frogs aren't usually available at this time of year, and if they aren't, then when can I expect to find them back in stock. Thanks a lot.

Come Spring to late Summer they are available in the classifieds and a lot to . Pet stores that carry reptiles/amphibians can get them easily during that time to .
It is hard to find them now and if you do they are rather expensive compared to Spring/summer.
Funny thing that you have green because I am looking into greens as I only have barking and want to set up a 20 extra high tank for 3 greens but have no idea how to sex them.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just wait for spring to come around then. As far as I know greens are commonly available year round. I've heard its difficult to tell the sexes apart though. Females are larger, at around 2-2.5 inches, while males average around 1 inch. On a reptile magazine it says that the skin on the throat is another difference between sexes. The skin on males is more loose and wrinkly. The female's is tighter and smoother. But for this you would need be able to pick up several of them to see this and tell the difference.

Good luck with your herps
