types of snakes

can snakes be grouped into 2 categories venomous and constricters? if not how else do they attack and kill prey? do any snakes just grab and swallow without killing? this maybe a stupid question but please answer anyway!!

I'm led to understand that indigos actually batter things against the ground, and racers maul their prey with their teeth.

Some snakes attack and eat their prey without doing anything else to kill the prey. I've seen a broad-banded water snake take a frog without doing anything beyond striking, biting, and eating. Many of the small insect-eating snakes do nothing beyond striking, biting, and eating.

As has already been mentioned, many species, such as Drymarchon spp., Nerodia spp., Masticophis spp. and Spilotes spp. tend subdue their prey by pinning, beating or simply swallowing prey alive, though Spilotes spp. will occasionally constrict prey.
It appears non-venomous sight hunters are less inclined to constrict their prey, opting for the methods listed to subdue such...
