I have to agree....those Basins are too pretty to risk feeding them together. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

Hi,
Yes, thank you for your tip. I was aware of it. I put a strong paper between the snakes to keep them apart when I fed them. Normally I don’t feed them together, but I wanted to make a good picture of the belly without having to take it from the terrarium, so not to disturb it too much.
Best regards,
Joost

Hey Joost-
I think you posted primarily to get feedback on the color differences of those two fine animals. The difference is marked; the paler one seems to have reduced melanin, could be considered hypo-melanistic? I've seen pics on this forum of similar "mint" color on young basins...may be within a "normal" range of color variation. Are they captive-bred?

Hi,
Thanks for your reaction. I still doubt if it is hypo-melanistic ?! I think it’s mint. Some people think it still has to shed, but that’s its genuine colour. I bouht them bothe as captive-bred. And I think / hope they mated a couple of weeks ago (see picture). Where did you see the other pics?
Regards,
Joost

both are beautiful. please keep us updated on their progress.
do you know how old they are?

billstevenson Jan 06, 2006 04:15 PM

Sorry, I don't remember specificaly...either here on Forum or K.S. Classifieds. Probably classifieds. It was a young basin with the same color....'course cameras can't always be trusted in cases like this. Hopefully some reader should be able to help out here...

You have an interesting base color on the one to the right.

Could you tell me what bloodline that animal came from?

Hi,
Yes, I’m not sure if the colour is special. I know about the colours of young animals, but never saw this in adults. What do you think about it? Some people don’t believe it’s the real colour you see on the picture, that it’s bad camera work. But it’s really the genuine colour you see. I bought them in Germany from someone who sold them on. I don’t know where they came from originally. I am sorry about that.
Best regards,
Joost

is one of the many things I love about keep snakes. I love the contrast between those two. Very nice pair. I'm jealous! Did you get them as babies? If so, how did they differ in color then (if at all)?

Thanks for posting...
