Large Non-tropical Snake

Kiknskreem Jan 03, 2006 09:27 AM

I've got a table that I may convert into a cage. It measures 50x15x20 or so. I'm looking for a medium sized snake, on of the larger colubrids maybe. The cage will not hold humidity, nor would I trust it to hold a decent sized boa or similar snake. I was thinking maybe a bullsnake? I'd like a large snake that does not require humidity.

for a larger colubrid i would consider a black milk snake, they change color from tri color to black, great feeders, dog tame and they have very little heat requirments.i keep my snake room at 75 and supply no additional heat and they thrive, just as bullet proof as a snake can get.have fun!

That beauty snake is spot on. Don't see too many of them for sale however.

Personally, I like your idea of the bull or maybe a pine snake. There are a few morphs, though personally I'd be interested in either a black or northern pine. Or you could get a black rat - they're the largest of the rat snakes, and don't need added humidity or heat.

The taiwan beauties dont seem to be that difficult to find. I have seen several in the classifieds. Check out the "other snakes" section.
Here's a pic of my male, he's close to 7ft

Some of the Russian rats, or the Asian rats live in temperate conditions. They go over 10' with the Asians...
