I have a fluval 304 canister filter. Looking for a more inexpensive way to replace the carbon bags. any ideas, materials to make my own? Thanks for the advice.

i didnt even use a filter bag when i used fluvals. some might get in another compartment, but not much. it worked for me.

and it allows more carbon to go in to each compartment and prevents the water from going around it the way the water can go around the filter bag.

I found & bought mesh bags in the local pet store's fish dept. for somewhere around $1.99 or $2.99 each. I don't recall exactly what I paid for them but it was a low price. Then I bought my own carbon & filled the mesh bags myself.
Waaay cheaper than buying those carbon bags made for the filter.

simple....do what i do.

use ladys tights/stockings, cut the legs of sao your only left with the feet, and put the carbon in this, tie the end, place in filter...sorted.

works great and very in-expensive.
