Can you bathe a new gravid snake?

madamemedusa Jan 03, 2006 10:05 PM

I posted before about our snakes mating. They mated off and on for 2 days. But since she was shedding she didn't finish getting the dead skin off. Since we don't know yet if she is pregnant, is it safe to bathe her this early? I always give my snakes warm baths to help them with their shedding.

Thanks!

Instead of a bath try using a wet towel in the cage, put her between the folds. Works better than a bath and does not promote scale rot.

Increase the humidity (slightly) by putting in a ball of wet newspaper or a wet towel INSIDE the cage. Take out after 1-2 days. Don't handle the gravid snake. Its not worth it. A few pieces of skin isn't going to kill it.

Are you sure she is gravid? I would agree with Jeff - a few pieces of shed are not life-threatening and she should be left alone if truly gravid. If not, put her in a "sweat box".

We're not sure she's gravid. That's why I wanted to check. I won't take any chances though. Thanks for the advice. I'll put in the wet towel in. Luckily the skin is only on her back. She got everything else off.
