Incubating Green Anole eggs

bdelator Jan 03, 2006 10:24 PM

I just bought a green anole as a feeder but noticed that she was gravid and decided to keep her as a pet. I just put her in a 40 gallon tank that houses an adult green tree python (too big to eat the anole) and after about an hour, witnessed the female anole start digging around the bark surrounding the water bowl. I saw her lay 2 eggs and cover them with bark. My question is that since the tank is fairly humid (I mist it once a day) and stays about 80-85 degrees, should I remove the eggs and try to incubate them or are they probably best off buried were they are now?

first of all, you really shouldnt have put the anole in with your green tree pyth. for the sake of both of them. most if not 100% of anoles are wild caught, they have a lot of diseases and parasites that you just exposed your pyth to.second, that is a lot of stress on the anole, they HATE snakes. they will do anything they can to get away from them. but any way, green anole eggs hatch in 35-40 days at a temp of 85F and a humidity of 80%. so you could leave them in there and see what happens but if your pyth digs them up by any chance or moves them they will die. the eggs cannot be turned because it will kill the embryo. you can dig them up and incubate them and they will probably have a better chance at hatching as long as you dont turn the eggs. good luck though.
