Questions about color morph

assie2071 Jan 04, 2006 12:01 AM

These are some photos of a hatchling corn I was given as a gift last week. Unfortunatly he became epileptic yesterday morning and passed away this afternoon. What I was wondering is what you call this color morph. I'm not very familiar with corn color morph, and neither is the person who gave it to me.

I would say it is an okeetee due to the high orange on the first 1/4 of it's body. It could also be a normal. Technically okeetee is a normal that is bred for a certain type of color and thick saddles. It was very pretty regardless and I am sorry for your loss. Was it exposed to any poisons?

I'm really not sure what happened. Since he was new to my home I had him in quarentine separate from my other snakes. I had gotten him as a christmas gift from a friend of mine (not sure which breeder he bought him off of) and until monday he was doing fine, he had even eaten 2 pinkies for me. The only thing I can think of is that I was unsing a different brand of paper-towl than usual, but that really shouldn't make a difference should it? At the end though he was having real bad cluster seizures and I was getting ready to take him in to the vet, but he died before I could get him in the car (he seemed to be in a lot of pain though, so it's better this way).

Thanks for the color morph insight. I liked this little guy so much that I want to get another one that is colored as beautifully as he was.

If you wanted to get something beautiful and as pretty as the last, get an okeetee. Very similar to the one you had(I think what you had was a normal), but there is more contrast to the colors and thicker black around the saddles.

cause it seems strange that he became epileptic and passed away that fast. Did you have any mite/tick spray around, or any no pest strips hanging around? I would be concerned about any new snakes that you get. If you can not figure out what killed him, then you need to make sure to clean EVERYTHING the snake came in contact with, or replace it entirely.

I already have. I cleaned the entire house and bleach rinsed everything he touched and everything in my ball's cages. I do have mite spray, but I haven't used it quite a while (and certainly not on him as he was so small) and I've never had a problem with insects, so no pest strips/sprays/etc. anywhere.
I took him up to my vet for burial yesterday and he said it sounded like he had been treated for mites and was too small to handle it, but he didn't have mites when I got him so I don't know who would've treated him.
