I'm planning a field trip in new york state next summer and I wanna know if I need a permit to photograph snakes ? If yes, where I can get it and what are the restrictions?

because I heard I need one to photograph protected /rare species such as timber rattler, hognose, black rat and black racer!

I've lived and herped in N.Y. for 40 yrs and never heard of a permit. Only timbers are protected but you can photo all you want.

No, so long as you aren't handling timbers, massasaugas or queen snakes, your fine.
