How much should I pay for these animals

patrickholmes Jan 04, 2006 06:26 PM

I have an opportunity to purchase two animals. The parents are wild caught "Sorongs" from Bob Clark. These are '99 CB males. Both are approx. 4' with typical coloration- black tail, yellow ventrals w/blue clouding, blue dorsal stripe w/blue 'ribs'. He also has two sibling females (nfs) and one is very high blue and turquoise, the other is almost solid blue/turquoise. The animals are exceptionally healthy and complete with cb records, pics of clutch when hatched and pics of parents. The price is negotiable as I am purchasing other animals from him and I would like to know what they are worth. I would also like to know what the chances are of finding an unrelated female that could maintain the 'high blue' trait. I have seen "Sorongs" CB and WC, neo to adult from $225 to $1000. Any input is greatly appreciated.

well, as far as neos go, the $225 ones are WC/CH, and the $1000 are CBB...just how things work in the chondro world. For LTC adult males...I'd say $400-600 would be the most I'd pay for each...but that's just me. Females would be more like $600-1000, depending on the breeder. As for finding an unrelated female with a lot of blue...it's hit or miss. Your only 2 choices are to pay out the ass for an adult high blue female, as they will run you sevaral $k, or buy a bunch of sorong/jaya females PRE color change and hope for the best. If I'm wrong on anything, somebody correct me...pretty sure i'm close though.

Well... adult males are a LOT easier to find than females, w/c generally don't have as high a value as cbb. It is common for older aru/jaya/sorong females turn a hormonal blue so although pretty, they are not the "blues" you will see commanding high prices.

If these are exceptionally marked males it may increase their value a bit, but I would say a lowball offer would be about $400 for the pair, average offer about $500-600, and if they are just something you can't live without $700-1k should do it for sure.

$400 for an adult pair of any type is really cheap. You usually can't even find neonates that are captive bred for less than $400 each. Who would sell an adult with high blue for $200? I would figure for a nice CBB adult you would pay at least $400 each, and a high blue animal, several thousand if not more. If the female is just hormonal blue, that's different, but if she is truly a high blue animal, those start at $3-5,000 from what I've seen advertised.

Hi Meg, he said that the males were w/c in the original post and was wondering what they'd be worth. At least that's what I think he was asking. Didn't say anything about designer blues and just mentioned that the girls were blue, I stated that many aru/mainland females go hormonally blue as they mature.

Dang, hate it when I do that... wish I could see text from message that we're replying to easily here!!

Anyways, Patrick, I misread and see that these are indeed F1 generation cbb babies that have grown up and are NOW adults...

I'd bump up the offer prices between 3-500 hundred per adult male. I watch the ads pretty religiously and there are often males offered for sale in this price range.

Good luck!!

if you go to the "user pref" link above, you should be able to select that option. It is under "quoting".
