Agressive Gecko

mx6188 Jul 24, 2003 05:44 PM

Hi all.I recently baught a juvinile leo at a reptile expo.Unlike my other leo he is very agressive and will arch up and hiss when you try to come near him.I have researched it a little and some say its because hes young and that they mellow out with age.Should I try to handle him at all or just let him grow and try it later? Thanks!

yeah, babies and juvies have a very defensive attitude and it is best just to not stress him out with handling right now. it will probably just scare him even more. wait for a bit and once he starts to calm down, try to start handling him. my two little hatchlings are the most high strung creatures in the world....they hiss whenever i get near them (to put water in their dish or mist their humid hide) but if i was confronted with a giant i would probably start screaming too

My hatchlings, now juvies, after the first months have actually calmed down to where I can nominally handle them... my one big male hatchling, Goliath.. he likes to climb over my hands.. the other 3 are still somewhat more skittish... But then.. my hands are in and out of their enlosures 2 or 3 times daily for feeding, cleaning..etc etc.

My new hatchling that just hatched yesterday is very calm. I havent tryed to hold it but when i walk into the room it doesnt run away or anything i have never even heard it hiss.
