Nice looking dragon but that doesn't make sense, how do they glow with no white pigment? Wouldn't the white MAKE them glow.
The white pigment basically washes out the red color. When you remove the white, the color underneath becomes more intense. The beautiful yellow dragon on the other response is a prime example. It looks like it has no white at all. Josh
very pretty! does s/he have the typical dark eyes of translucents? it looks it in the pic. Darwin's are jet black unless you look with a handlens and thern can see the color. He glows gold

Nice dragon! Most of the transluscents that I produce have the blue eyes. They either are born with it, or they switch over at some point. Some even reach almost adult size before their eyes change over to blue. When you raise the transluscents indoors, their eyes look black. When you raise them outdoors in natural sunlight, or keep them outside for more than a month, you can see the iris really well. It is usually a navy blue or purple color. Did you buy your transluscent, or did you hatch it out? Thats a great looking dragon. Josh
Very nice josh. The hypo pastel transluscent was sweet too. Keep up the good work. And tell randy to take some more pics! lol.
peace,
nate

Here is a picture of more variations of transluscents. they are much bigger now since this photo was taken. The one on the left is an orange transluscent, the next one is a hypotrans, a normal(for comparison), and a ? color trans. I don't know what to call this one. I will have some more pics soon of some other ones. Thanks for the comments on the other dragons. Josh

That blue one is very different. I don't think anyone in the US has been working with the Translucsents as long as you, maybe the world. Looks like you are getting some awesome Beardies out of the project. Can't wait to see what 2006 will bring!

cool colors. The "blue" one is quite unique. Are they holding their color as they get older?

Awesome Dragons!!!Those are pretty amazing looking.
I don't have a website yet. As things pick up again, I think that I definately need to. I produce over two thousand dragons a year, and some geckos on top of that. I want my lizards to get the best care possible, and I am afraid that if I have a website, it will take time away from them. This is why I have been under the radar for so long. Somehow, I will figure it out. Thanks for the comments, and any questions, feel free to ask. Josh
This is an older picture of some transluscent juveniles. They are all cooling down now. When they are awake and active, I will get some more shots. This is the same three transluscents that were on a previous post of mine. I will have more pics soon of some other unique looking dragons. Josh

Hi Josh,
when I got Darwin I did not know he was a translucent (nor did his breeder as it was her first) - and I got him! I commented to her how I could see through his belly and that is when we figiured it all out.
My question to you is how much have your's maintained that transparency? Since I have no older dragons to compare him to it is hard to tell. He will be a year old in Feb and his belly skin is not as translucent as it used to be. Here are some early pic of him taken last April.

Hi, as the transluscents grow, their skin gets much thicker, so you don't see inside of them as much. Because they lack white, their belly tends to be a blue color. Because they are so variable, some hatch super transluscent(where you can see their organs functioning, hemipenes are visible through the tail), to a normal looking dragon with solid blue eyes. As they grow, some not so transluscents can become more transluscent(lose white). It's kinda like breeding hypopastels, where the babies gain more white as they get older(but reversed). Some transluscents end up with this raining look on their bellies, where it is half white, half transluscent. When you compare your transluscent adult to a normal dragon, it definately looks out of the ordinary. I just think that it is really difficult to have an adult that is as trans as a baby because their skin is so thick. Espically on their bellies where they are constantly rubbing it on things, like rocks, branches, or sand. It is hard to make the back super trans because dragons have that sort of black protective film that is under the skin(I think this is to protect the organs?). The face, to me is an indicator of how trans it is. The trans that have the pink lips, and the top of the head where the eyes are is blue(like leopard geckos). Sorry if I sound like I am rambling, I just have so much data on these guys. Hope this answers your question. Josh
This is what I was talking about with the pink lips and the blue above the eye. This picture was on a previous post. I love this one, because you can see the transition from normal to blue with the eye. This process only lasts about a day or so. Thanks, Josh

Nope, don't mind the rampbling. I asked you b/c you seem to have a long history of breeding these. Since I am not into breeding, and Darwin is my first dragon, I have none to compare him to. He is just about at lights out now so he is all "dark & ugly" but I will try to get a current shot of his belly. It does always look like it is "dripping" and not one solid color. He definitely does not have the "pink lips" but does have some of the translucent skin above the eyes where there is darkening. You can sort of see it in the pics I posted. And he does have thos very dark eyes. More pics of him are in the gallery under my name "lele"
The breeder/friend I got him from says she'll bring up a couple girls for him next summer and I'll stud him out
She has gotten more from his bloodline. He was only one of two surviving eggs and the other is not a trans but he is very stunted in his growth. I had someone over me a hefty price when I first got Darwin and found out he is a translucent, but he is my pet so he is valuable in a different way to me.
thanks,
lele

If you don't mind, where did your trans origionally come from? Was he just hatched out of the blue? I have a trans female that looks near identical to him. She also has eyes that aren't completely dark, but they are blue. Josh
