popping femoral pores?

po Jan 05, 2006 06:18 PM

this has been an ongoing issue with my husband and i!
he says his vet told him to pop the waxy stuff out of his male iggys femoral pores (of course he always calles them "ports" too) and i was fine if he did it to his own iggy, but now he thinks we need to do it on the evil rescue ig we have and i dont think its needed and could even cause pain if not leave him open to infection.
i cant remember my works vin password right now, but ill post it there too tomorrow if i have time.
any input would help, i may drop an e-mail to my local exotic vet too.
Thanks!

I agree with you. I've never heard of anyone doing this! I've raised and rescured many iguanas in my life and never done it.
What purpose could it help? As you've said, it will only cause pain and possible infection. And it sure isn't going to help with a male getting any friendlier!

This sounds like a classic case of miscommunication. Yes the excess can be massauged out, but for no real reason on a healthy animal. There may be instances of trauma or impaction ect. that may warrant "popping", but until signs of anything like this are apparent, I"d leave the iggie be. Perhaps the words, "can" and "should" were mixed up by one or both in the conversation.
