sorry about my englisch. greetings nico
this is her first clutch. she has 7. thanks for inquiring.
Well...once again I'm humbled by the unpredictability of these snakes. I'd like to think with over 10 years breeding experience and many hours involved with field work I "knew" some things...but twice in the past couple weeks I've been blown away with new knowledge.
First, when Doug told me he's seen keels on females ...now this. I never thought I'd hear of a female laying this early in the season! They never cease to amaze.
I'm not saying that I know these animals well anymore. They have proven me wrong too many times!!
GOOD LUCK!!
someone once told me that the animals are OUR teachers. We learn from them and boy do they teach us!
I recall maybe three years ago Robert Seib having either Eastern eggs or hatchlings appear in January. It was one or the other.
I do remember Robert S. producing eggs very early. Didn't he use an artifical cooling method (air conditioning of some kind)
to cool them in the summer to get them to breed so early?
PS: Getting them to breed early isn't the problem...it's getting them to breed early AND get good eggs.
This post is addressed to everyone who reads this forum and everyone in the reptile field. My impression of these forums is to learn from each other and better educate ourselves on the breeding and husbandry of these and all animals. We so often read information and it is then turned into fact because it has been read, when in fact, we are only humans who, on a daily basis continue to make mistakes and learn. It is best when we can learn from our mistakes so as not to make them again. This post is not to degrade or put down anyone, just in the hopes that we can continue this forum and other forums without critiquing each other. These were designed to educate each other as said above. Now with that being said, can anyone that is reading this post just clear their heads for one moment and realize these animals are not wild animals. They are in captive environments which are controlled by the caretakers. I am not making the statement that I am better or more knowledgeable than anyone, I would just like more people to have an open mind that anything is possible when being raised captive. Think of our universe that we live in and if the seasons change, we are affected by it, so if we control these little universes that we create for these animals, they too can be affected ie. we can make summer winter and vise versa which would affect the animals state of mind. This would then throw everything out that these field researchers write. The writings are based on the animals in their wild habitat in their native land. I hope this does not offend anyone as I value my reputation and respect all of you other breeders who try everyday to learn and produce these animals. I have thought like this for a long time and have had reservations about telling people about my thoughts because everyone is so eager to critique and cut down other peoples thoughts. I wish everyone the best in their breeding. I hope this industry can grow through these forums and I know it can but the bickering and critiquing needs to stop. We ourselves have been through alot in the years of breeding. We have lost our store twice over due to fires caused by neighbors without insurance and lost everything as well as our motivation to continue breeding. But our love and desire to learn and educate other is stronger than we anticipated so we strive each day in the hopes to learn something new. With this being said, I wish to all a happy New Year and best regards, Reptile Ranch
Are you the Reptile Ranch in California??
Just a hunch and I personaly would not do it but since Indigos are still breeding my hunch is you have a double clutching female. I had a female Coachwhip that double clutched like clockwork and I would venture to guess that she would lock up again within a week or two if the opportunity presented itself. I changed my mind I would do it to test the theory but it is your snake and not all people are willing to take risks in the name of science.

the funny thing about this breeding is that the male never tore her up like I have had happen in previous breedings. He was/is a perfect gentle lover towards her and at times it seems he respects her. I watch the 2 together and he just watches her, learns her mood and approaches when he feels "she is in the mood" Another breeding pair we had, the male just raked up his mates back and really concerned me that he would actually harm her. The pair that are now proud parents, seem to be truly in love
Maybe they will breed again this year, she certainly didnt lose body weight and is right at the weight she was pre breed.
