Zebra Mite outbreak sweeping herps nationwide . . . be ready for them!

rugbyman2000 Jan 05, 2006 08:37 PM

An inside source at the government recently leaked these Zebra Mite photos. This species was genetically engineered by scientists in Washington, and escaped during a labratory explosion in December. They are ferocious predators of herps and vary greatly in size. They are already building strongholds across North America and may be in your collection already.

. . . just kidding, enjoy . . .

but it was funny. I was gullible enough to click on your message title...Anyway if those are your pets they are great looking even with the zebra problem

Hahaha "someone has too much time on their hands" is exactly what I would have thought seeing those pics too.

I started playing with this photoshop program yesterday to get the hang of it. As soon as I figured out how to add zebras to one picture, it was too funny, and I just couldn't stop....but I figured the kingsnake crowd would get a chuckle out of it.

Some of those herps are my own pets, others came through the rescue and were adopted out to permanent homes. Others I found in the wild or at the zoo. But they're all my original pics anyway. Glad somebody got a laugh.

I've been trying to come up with a good comeback line for this thread, but I can't seem to find one. In any case, your pictures are amusing. Did you pick the zebra picture and the "zebra mite" idea because of zebra mussels? When I first saw the title, I thought it said "zebra mussel" and wondered why someone was posting about the zebra mussel problem in the general forum for snakes. I even contemplated whether the government was going to allow hobbyists to raise endangered native mussels for re-release back into native waterways someday.

Good luck on the rescues.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

I was just going to say that any mites that big would be pretty scary, no matter what they looked like...

For those that prefer a more natural approach, consider the new predatory wasp, Encarsia formosa "Panthera leo". They're new and no photos are available, just a drawing at http://tinyurl.com/crdr4
