Too small....and I don't like keeping snakes in glass tanks, anyway.

darn, have any suggestions???
4x2x2 is fine for an adult IJ. buy a cage built for snakes or build you own. aquariums of that size are just too freaking heavy to work with. also, i think the snakes would prefer a few walls that are not see through.

Used reptile cages in that size pop up frequently at herp shows, or check the "cages" part of KS classified.

there it lies the problem, i already have a 50 gallon aquarium tank i got for free from my uncle, so i'm trying to see if I can find something to fit in that, and i thought an IJ would do the trick........i was also planning to cover the sides with black paper so only one side is clear
BEN
The problem may be that your are trying to get the animal to fit the cage, rather than the other way around....which is preferable.

i was just wondering, i had no intention to get one if you guys didnt reccomend it, so now i've moved on to try and find a different snake, i'm thinking a pine snake maybe
i would never put a snake in an undersized cage
BEN

I recommend leaving the tank empty for as long as it takes to find a snake you love! Research the snakes you're considering, and never settle, or else you may wind up with an adequately housed snake that you have lost interest in. Good luck!

Most of the adult IJ carpets i have seen are fairly small snakes. Mine is almost 4 yrs old and is in an enclosure less than 50 gallons. I think a 50 gallon is more than enough to be honest, but i guess i'd have to see the snake. Certainly it would not be considered cruel to do what you're thinking.
Hi Jaykis!

there's a show i'm heading to in a week, i'm going to see what the breeders think, i'm sure i'll find something

i dont think its big enough.. i have a male thats 5.5 feet long and getting prity thick.. i know thats a bit large for most male ij's but femails get bigger so no i dont think its big enough
sory about the poor photo quality
the pic messed up so here it is

I had a male IJ that was 6ft and ate jumbo rats
ok, so there is potential for IJ pythons to get too big for a 50gallon tank.
i guess i'll go for something else, anyone know of something similar to an IJ or carpet python that might wok with a 50 gallon tank
I have 100$ to spend

spotted python
Just my opinion, but there's no airflow, harder to clean, easier for the snake to escape, etc. If you really need to put something in a 50 gal aquarium, try fish.
And my female IJ carpet eats 2lb rabbits. Won't touch a rat.

Glass aquariums are not the best enclosures for carpet pythons. In addition to what Jaykis said, they also don't provide the snake with much of a sense of security. The cold, clear walls do nothing to reduce stress on the animal.
good luck with whatever you decide!
