easy vision cage solution??

rahl1972 Jan 06, 2006 05:15 PM

I have an issue. I am ordering a number of Vision cages. They are the six footers and will be used for retics. My concern is that I have heard that they tend to bow as you get the heavier snakes in them and the cages are stacked. Then it is very hard to open the doors. I was wondering if anyone has come up with a simple solution that does not involve actually woodworking and making something by hand. I'm no good at that sort of thing.
I did see a heavy duty storage rack at Lowes that I thought was perfect but it ended up being several inches too short. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

That Vision cage size and the usage you intend practically guarantee a problem with bowing/warping, and consequent difficulty in getting the doors to slide. If constructing a support is out of the question for you, how about looking into something like the cheapest commercial pallet racks you can find?

Whatever you do, don’t mix sizes like this:

The pallet racks are kind of what I was thinking myself. I found a place about an hour away that specializes in them. I'm going to talk to them and see if they can help me out.

As far as stacking different sizes goes...I don't plan on it. If I would have even considered it...you pic would have made me drop the idea real quick. Anyway...thanks for the reply. It was very helpful.
