rabidkittycat Jan 06, 2006 07:26 PM

i was wondering if i can keep 2 males in an enclosure that is about 6x3. there will also be a female or 2 in there so mayeb that will distract them?

Two males together may or may not fight, but the probability of fighting will definitely increase if they have females to fight over.
Personally, I don't think an enclosure of that size is adequate romm for one adult box turtle, let alone four.

well he has one of my friends borrowed females in there and he hasnt tried to mate at all and its been like a week. he doesnt seem to have a strong male drive so i dont think HE would be the fighter.
well i have him in about a 3x2 and thats pleanty for him.. especially since i take him outside for real sunlight and give him soaks in the big tub. he is kept indoors because of predators and the summer temperature/humidity here in arizona is not suitable for an eastern box turtle.
i take all of my animals out for excersize and handling, no matter how big an indoor enclosure is its nice for some animals to get out and get sun and excersize.

Wait until spring time when a young turtleman's fancy turns to goils.

Most likely he'll behave quite differently from the way he behaves right now. IMHO if you put males together with females then be prepared to break up some fights and don't think the females won't fight the males. When the males bother them enough and are on their last nerve, the females will start to bite back.

housing males together is fine as long as there is PLENTY of room for them and there are many visual breaks within the enclosure so they can get out of sight of the other. Like it was already said, a female in the enclosure would change things up a lot and the males would fight one another.

I have 3 male and 3 female eastern box turtles. They are all in hibernation right now outside but come spring I will release into the wild 2 of the males. I have a 10x 25 turtle pen but I had to separate the males because of fighting. I was very surprised at how mean and aggressive a male box turtle can be. I will keep the one that yea the girls like the best.
