50% het anery

chiefmeat68 Jul 24, 2003 07:01 PM

I recently purchaced a male columbian red tail that I was told was 50% het for anery. What does the 50% mean? Does it mean that my snake has a 50% chance of being het for anery or do I need a lesson in genetics. Speaking of that can somone give me a lesson in boa genetics and what my snake could possibly produce as well as what a sutable partner would be for him in the future.

mean that one parent did not carry the anery gene
the other parent was 100% het Anery.

yes, your boa is 50% poss het anery which means it may or
may not carry the genes for anery. IMO a really good mate
would be a female salmon het anery, then after they breed
you would be able to prove if your male carries the genes.
If he does you would get: ghosts, anerys, hypos and normals
if he doesn't you would get: normals and hypos 50% poss het anery

hope that helped a bit.

I just got some more information on my snakes genetics. The father was a double Het for Ghost and the mother was a normal pastel. This would explain his 50% chance of having the anery gene. I do have somemore questions though. What does hypo really mean/look like? What does a ghost mean/look like? If someone has some time feel free to post some pics of examples of these types. Also if someone can give me the genetics in the symbolic form that would help. ie. EeBb or what ever letters are commonly used to define traits. Thanks
