I don't know what to get..

Like that other guy, I also have a 29gallon tank. I was going to set it up for fish but I was thinking about a reptile. What could I put in there? I thought about a leopard gekko. I was looking at a blue tongue skink. The guy at Petsmart said 29gallon is enough room for one when its adult. I didn't really believe him. I also saw an Armadillo Lizard at this one store. I felt bad for it. Its kept in a medium Kritter Keeper with no lamps.

I would prefer something that can be tame and handlable (but i dont think i would handle it to much). I would also prefer if it was something that got a little size to it. Nothing big, since it isnt a big tank, but something a little larger. And also, i'd like it to be a little on the slower side, so it can't get away from me to easily when I handle it.

Please give me some suggestions. I'll look into everything you guys suggest. Thanks.

What are the dimensions of your 29 gallon tank?

A standard 29 is 12" deep, 30" long, and 18" high. That is far too small for a blue tongue. A small adult blue tongue would be at least 16" and require around 5-6 square ft. Also too small for a bearded dragon.

That size would OK for a leopard gecko, but the height would be a waste of space, since leopards aren't glass climbers. It would be harder to heat the floor area with standard heat lamps because of the height. Not impossible, but it would require higher wattage lamps. I don't like to use undertank heating.

Day geckos would be good. Some like crested geckos. Both are glass climbers.

Might I suggest a frog? I have a dumpy frog in 20 tall that's about 12x24x16 with cork bark, plants, moss and a water bowl. I use a 25 to 40 watt bulb in a dome fixture, along with an 18" fluorescent bulb, for heat and light during the day.

He's always out in the open, is easy to feed, doesn't run away when approached, and will usually sit on my hand. He's definitely a lot friendlier than most glass-climbing geckos.

You could put one or two dumpy's in your tank and create an interesting display with plants, vines, cork bark, etc.

Yeah, it's a standard 29gal. I figured i wasnt big enough at all for the BlueTongue.

I'd like to stay away from frogs since I already have a Firebelly Toad and a Pixie Frog And may be getting a Pacman soon. Also, if I were to set up for frogs, i'd have to get a few Red Eyes. I'll look into the Dumpys though.

I have a 20gal long tank I can use instead, if I were to get a Leo. I here Leos are a very good starter lizard. Thats good, since this will be my first reptile.

The fool from Petsmart also told me I could house a Mali Uro in that tank. I've heard I need much more floor room, 55gal, for Mali's.

I would just like something that won't get stressed if handled, and isnt overly fast.

Thanks for your help, I definitly won't rule out Dumpys, i've heard good things about them.
Anyone else have any suggestions? (Sorry this is so long..)

Haha yeah man, I saw your post right as I was gonna post mine. So I held off for a day or 2 and when no one replied I posted the same quesion. I was going to set my tank up for a couple native fish, but I already have a small fish tank set up and would really like to try some sort of reptile. I have nothing in my tank right now. I don't really know where to start yet. I don't know how the lighting works out. So i'll need to look into that. And as for sudstrate and the like, I can't really get any of that until I know what I want to get.
